Checked examples

Reach 82 percent

Inputs: Current 80%, final weight 20%, target 82%

Calculation: F = [82 − 80×(1−0.20)] ÷ 0.20

Result: 90% required

A 90 percent final would produce an 82 percent weighted total.

Impossible target under standard scoring

Inputs: Current 50%, final weight 10%, target 90%

Calculation: F = [90 − 50×0.90] ÷ 0.10

Result: 450% required

The target is not feasible if the final is capped at 100 percent.

Assumptions, rounding, and limits

  • The current grade represents all non-final work.
  • The final weight is the remaining share of the course grade.
  • All grade values use the same percentage scale.
  • Extra credit, category weighting, dropped work, and policy-specific rounding are not modeled.

Frequently asked questions

Why can the required score exceed 100%?

Does current grade include the final?

No. Enter the grade for the non-final portion only.

Can this model several remaining assignments?

No. It treats the final as one remaining weighted component.
