Checked examples

24 fps

Inputs: 2400 frames at 24 fps

Calculation: 2400÷24=100 seconds

Result: 00:01:40:00

Exact whole-rate non-drop-frame result.

Check: work-media.test.ts — 24 fps

Frame remainder

Inputs: 1001 frames at 30 fps

Calculation: 33 seconds remainder 11 frames

Result: 00:00:33:11

FF is always below fps.

Assumptions, rounding, and limits

  • Frames are whole and nonnegative.
  • Supported rates are exact 24, 25, 30, 50, or 60 fps.
  • 29.97/59.94 and drop-frame numbering are not supported.
  • Timecode is a label; it does not embed edit-list or media metadata.

Frequently asked questions

Does this support drop-frame timecode?

No. It uses explicit integer non-drop-frame arithmetic.

Why not 29.97 fps?

That rate requires separate rational-rate and drop-frame conventions.

Can FF equal fps?

No. It is the remainder after dividing by fps.
